There's a pair of scissors in my stomach!

On Monday, we talked about a trio of brain surgeries that went terribly wrong because of doctors getting left and right mixed up. As bizarre as that sounds, we've got another story that's even more baffling. A man who went in for a simple surgery went out with a retractor lodged firmly in his chest!

These brain surgeons can't tell right from left!

We tend to think of brain surgeons as pretty intelligent people. In fact, we'll even say "Hey, it's not brain surgery!" when we're talking about something mundane we're doing in comparison. However, sometimes smart people aren't focused on the little things. As an example, if a surgeon is supposed to operate on the left side of your brain, you'd expect him to be able to tell left from right. Shockingly enough, Rhode Island Hospital had three separate instances in the span of one year where three different medical teams got this wrong.

A long fall from a steep roof!

The theme of the week is dangerous jobs, the brave people who work them, and the terrible accidents that occur when safety guidelines aren't met. Today's story is about a man who fell from a roof because of several huge mistakes his co-workers made.
